How To Use Tile Grout Correctly
Preparation
Smooth out any excess adhesive from the tile joints. Do not scrape the tiles, but smooth out the grooves between them. Remove any larger particles and vacuum any remaining particles and debris in the grout.
Mixing
Pour your chosen grout into a mixing bucket. You may need to add water while stirring with a spatula. Try swirling the bucket slightly, as if you were mixing cement. Once all the water is absorbed, you'll notice the grout has a smooth, slurry-like consistency. Be sure to pour any dry grout from the bottom of the bucket into the mixture. Once the grout is thoroughly mixed, let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the mixture to harden slightly for easier application.
Prepare the Trowel and Start Applying
Apply generously and evenly. Start by applying a thick layer of grout to the wall, enough to fully fill the joints. Apply vigorously, diagonally, pushing the grout deep into the joints. Work on a small area, approximately 2 feet x 2 feet, then apply more mortar to the entire area as the joints begin to fill. Knowing when to stop can be tricky; it's best to continue until you see that each groove is evenly filled.
